I can't stay out of the cookbook section! Each time I am in a book store, I end up finding at least two or three cookbooks I think I can't live without.
The Produce Bible: Essential Ingredient Information and More Than 200 Recipes for Fruits, Vegetables, Herbs & Nuts contains details on how to prepare a full range of vegetables. The recipes sound divine, like rhubarb and ginger jam. I also appreciate information about peak months for harvest and how to select items for ripeness. Even though I wish the book included ideas for a more obscure vegetables, it is a solid reference.
Ratio: The Simple Codes Behind the Craft of Everyday Cooking has been mentioned on a number of food blogs, with good reason. The ratio-recipes are a great gut check for the seasoned cook who wants to check the amount of oil to put in their mayo or a beginner who is ready to tackle. Even when I am not looking at a particular recipe, I enjoy this book. For the food obsessed like us, this is a coffee table book.
I was lucky enough to work near the Green Arcade this summer. This allowed me to find and read a couple of other food related books that I might have missed, so stay tuned... I will recommend a few more books soon!
